Police Chief Giovanella ‘final call’ was Sept. 10

Former Hopedale Police Chief Mark A. Giovanella answered his final call with the Hopedale Police Department on Sept. 10, 2026, before officially retiring from his post.
According to an HPD Facebook post, “What Chief Giovanella didn’t know was that there was one more special surprise waiting for him. On the other end of that final call was former Head Dispatcher Lisa Collins, who recently retired after an incredible 26 years with the Town of Hopedale.
“Lisa and Chief Giovanella worked side-by-side sharing countless calls, long shifts, difficult incidents, and plenty of memories along the way. Having Lisa be the one to make that final call was a fitting and emotional way to close out Chief Giovanella’s career.”

Giovanella submitted his notice to the Select Board in December, and in January Lieutenant Ricardo Lima was named his successor.
