Former Town Coordinator returns to office

Hopedale Town Moderator Eugene Phillips has been appointed as Hopedale’s latest Interim Town Administrator. 

Phillips is a longtime fixture in Hopedale town government. In 2013, he left Town Hall after serving for 35 years in various roles. 

At its meeting on Aug. 10, the Select Board unanimously approved his appointment. 

Select Board Chair Glenda Hazard explained, “Gene is a previous Town Administrator in Hopedale, I believe we called the position ‘Town Coordinator’ at the time that he served, he actually retired from that role. And he has stepped up and is willing to help us out until we can find a long-term Town Administrator, and I personally really appreciate that.”

Phillips takes over Hopedale's top administrative post at a pivotal moment for the town, following a rapid series of leadership changes and against the backdrop of unresolved financial pressures and legal disputes.
