Hopedale’s Bri Frongillo collects second NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week while at Emerson

Emerson College senior guard Bri Frongillo has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Basketball Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Offensive Player of the Week, presented by SKYBOKX 109, for women’s basketball the Conference announced today.

Frongillo earns the weekly award for the second time this season and seventh of her career after averaging 18.5 points per game on 48.1-percent shooting in a 2-0 week for Emerson. She connected on 4-of-9 (44.4%) three-pointers and converted all seven free-throw attempts while also contributing 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.0 steals in 39.5 minutes per game over the week. It marks the third week this season the Lions have collected NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week with sophomore Jessie Silk (Newton, Massachusetts/Beaver Country Day) earning the honors on Nov. 17 and Frongillo collecting her first recognition of the season on Dec. 15.

Last month, Frongillo paced Emerson to a 73-62 win over Salve Regina University in the NEWMAC opener with a game-high 27 points on 9-of-20 shooting, converting all seven free throws and adding seven rebounds and four assists. And rounded out the Lions in double figures in a 58-56 win at Worcester State University with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting, canning both three-point attempts, with four assists and two steals.     

Frongillo, named a preseason All-American by D3Hoops.com, has started eight of the nine games she has played since returning from a first semester internship on the West Coast. She ranks second among NEWMAC scoring leaders with her team-best 19.3 points per game on 41.7-percent shooting (ninth NEWMAC), including 42.3-percent (22-for-53) from three-point distance (3rd), while shooting a NEWMAC-best 96.3% (26-27) from the free-throw line. Frongillo averages 2.4 three-point field goals per game (3rd), 3.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and a steal per game in a NEWMAC-high 38.0 minutes per contest.

Frongillo has scored in double-figures in eight of nine games played this season, with 20-plus points in three games and six career 30-point outings. She has led the Lions in scoring in seven of the nine games since her return and 42 times in her career overall. The reigning NEWMAC Athlete of the Year and an honorable mention All-American by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), is a two-time All-NEWMAC first team selection since transferring from Division I Bryant University. She has scored 1,100 of her 1,156 career points at Emerson, including 56 as a first year at Bryant, also totaling 208 rebounds, 234 assists and 70 steals in her 65 career games played. She is a 44.8-percent shooter during her time at Emerson, including 37.9% from beyond the arc, having converted 87.4% of her free-throw attempts.

Frongillo, a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District and two-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference performer, has scored in double figures in 51 of the 65 games she has played in her collegiate career. She has recorded three career double-doubles – all with points and assists – netting 20-plus points 29 times in her career, including 30-plus points six times with a pair of 40-point games. She netted a career-high 44 points with a career-best 12 assists in a win over Coast Guard Academy last January.
