After months of collaboration between the Select Board, Planning Board, and Economic Development Committee, the job description has been posted for the position of Hopedale Town Planner.

At its meeting on Nov. 21, the board discussed salary for the position. At the November special town meeting, voters transferred $75,000 to fund the position. 

“That’s not going to attract who you want,” said Interim Executive Assistant Martha White, who previously served as a town planner in another town. 

When the possibility of a part-time planner was mentioned, White said Hopedale has a workload that requires a full-time person.  

The board agreed to advertise the position as “salary negotiable” and to consider applicants seeking either permanent or contract work. 

The position is listed on the town website with a salary of $65,000 to $75,000. Applications are being accepted through Jan. 12 “or until the position is filled.”
